The moulting of the deep-sea galatheid crab, Mundopsissp. was observed using a seafloor observatory at a depth of 3572 m in Nankai Trough, western Japan. The duration of the ecdysis was 147 seconds. The crab rested on the substratum until ecdysis was complete. After ecdysis, it flicked and moved away from its exuviae. The newly moulted galatheid crab did not consume its cast exoskeleton.  相似文献

From 2005 to 2015, Ostrinia nubilalis were collected in the most important maize‐growing areas in Europe where MON 810 was cultivated. The susceptibility of these O. nubilalis collections to the Cry1Ab protein was determined using overlay bioassays and compared to that of reference (control) strains. Larvae that died or did not moult after 7 days were used to calculate a moulting inhibition concentration (MIC). Two different batches of Cry1Ab protein were used over the course of this study. Between 2005 and 2015, 145 collections of O. nubilalis from 14 areas were analysed. The Cry1Ab susceptibility of populations from different geographic regions differed only slightly across years. The greatest variability in the MIC50 for field samples collected from 2005 to 2011 and tested with batch 1 was 6.6‐fold in 2006. For field‐collected O. nubilalis, the difference between MIC50 values of the most susceptible and most tolerant samples was 13.1‐fold for this period. For samples collected in 2012–2015 and tested with batch 2, the greatest variability was 4.1‐fold in 2014. A diagnostic concentration (MIC99) was calculated for batch 1 (48 ng/cm2) using the results from all the collections in 2005–2012. Bridging experiments indicated that the diagnostic concentration for batch 2 was 28 ng/cm2. From 2006 onwards, no O. nubilalis reached the 2nd larval stage when the diagnostic concentration of either batch of Cry1Ab was used. Only one insect collected from Romania in 2012 and two insects collected as reference strain from Spain in 2015 survived exposure to a dosage of 20 ng/cm2, and none of these larvae survived on MON 810 maize. Our results indicate that there has been no significant change in susceptibility to Cry1Ab in European populations of O. nubilalis over the period 2005–2015.  相似文献

In the carnivorous dipteran Sarcophaga bullata Parker, vitellogenesis was partially inhibited by injection of two doses of 12 g abscisic acid (ABA). There was no significant difference between injections on day 2 and 4, or on day 4 and 6. Higher and lower doses were less effective. The mixture of isomers inhibited vitellogenesis more than the cis-trans isomer. ABA had no effect on the total lipid concentration of the haemolymph but it inhibited the sharp increase in total protein concentration of the haemolymph and particularly that of vitellogenin, which normally occurred within 24 hr following liver feeding on day 4. Since vitellogenin synthesis is under the control of moulting hormone (MH), the MH activity was measured by radioimmunoassay to find out whether ABA might interact with vitellogenin synthesis via its hormonal inductor. Eight hours after liver feeding, there was a MH peak in the control groups while following ABA treatment this peak occurred after 18 hr. The inhibitory effect of ABA on vitellogenesis could be overruled by feeding sugar impregnated with ecdysterone (5 mg/g), not by topical application of JH. Our results suggest that ABA might interact with a mechanism which phytophagous and non-phytophagous insects share in common. If in phytophagous insects the same amount of ABA per gram weight, as was effective in Sarcophaga (about 200 g/g), is needed to reduce fecundity, it is not probable that this plant hormone plays a role in the seasonal synchronisation of the growth and reproduction of insects with the senescence of their host plants.
Résumé La vitellogenèse du diptère carnivore, Sarcophaga bullata a été partiellement inhibée par injection de deux doses de 12 g d'acide absisique (ABA). Il n'y avait pas de différence significative entre les injections du deuxième et quatrième jour, ou du quatrième et sixième jour. La mixture d'isomères a plus inhibé la vitellogenèse que le cis-trans isomère.ABA n'a pas eu d'effect sur la concentration totale des lipides de l'hémolymphe, mais il a inhibé l'augmentation brutale de la concentration protéique totale de l'hémolymphe, et particulièrement celle de la vitellogénine qui se produit normalement dans les 24 h après consommation de foie le 4ème jour. La synthèse de la vitellogénine étant sous le contrôle de l'hormone de mue (MH), l'activité MH a été mesurée par radio-immunologie, pour découvrir si l'ABA agissait sur la synthèse de la vitellogénine par intermédiaire de son inducteur hormonal. Huit heures après alimentation sur foie, le taux de MH chez les témoins était élevé tandis qu'après traitement avec ABA ce pic n'apparaissait qu'après 18 h. L'effet inhibiteur de l'ABA sur la vitellogénine a pu être neutralisé en fournissant aux mouches du sucre impregné d'ecdystérone (5mg/g), mais non par application locale d'hormone juvénile. Nos résultats suggèrent qu'ABA agit probablement sur un mécanisme commun aux insectes phytophages et non phytophages.Il est peu probable que l'acide absisique joue un rôle dans la synchronisation saisonnière de la croissance et de la reproduction des insectes avec la sénescence des plantes-hôtes.

Failure of the brain to stimulate the prothoracic gland to release ecdysone has been widely regarded as the basis for diapause in insect pupae. In diapause-destined flesh flies, the absence of a peak of moulting hormone around the time of pupal head eversion supports this contention, but in addition, major pulses of juvenile hormone (JH) activity with a rhythmicity of 24 hr are unique to flesh flies destined for pupal diapause. JH activity persists during diapause, and a pulse of JH precedes the rise of moulting hormone that initiates adult development.  相似文献

The relationship between the inundation of a salt marsh in southeast Denmark not subject to lunar tides and the availability and predation of seeds of the annuals Salicornia spp. and Suaéda maritima by autumn staging dabbling ducks was studied by carrying out exclosure experiments over the course of 2 years. There was a marked difference in the wetness of the salt marsh between the two study years, which resulted in distinct temporal patterns of salt-marsh use by dabbling ducks. In both years, the depletion of seeds of both Salicornia spp. and S. maritima was initiated subsequent to the flooding of the sample transects, which also induced the gradual release of seeds from the plants within the exclosures. Nevertheless, seeds were removed more rapidly in plots visited by dabbling ducks than in the exclosures. The predation of seeds took place as soon as the individual plants had been fully submerged, but before the seeds were released from the plants. The timing of flooding events during early autumn may potentially affect the availability of the salt-marsh seed stock. Therefore, weather conditions may impose critical constraints on the feeding opportunities for dabbling ducks during autumn migration on non-tidal salt marshes.  相似文献

Question. Can strategic burning, targeting differing ecological characteristics of native and exotic species, facilitate restoration of native understorey in weed‐invaded temperate grassy eucalypt woodlands? Location. Gippsland Plains, eastern Victoria, Australia. Methods. In a replicated, 5‐year experimental trial, the effects of repeated spring or autumn burning were evaluated for native and exotic plants in a representative, degraded Eucalyptus tereticornis grassy woodland. Treatments aimed to reduce seed banks and modify establishment conditions of exotic annual grasses, and to exhaust vegetative reserves of exotic perennial grasses. Treatments were applied to three grassland patch types, dominated by the native grass Austrodanthonia caespitosa, ubiquitous exotic annuals, or the common exotic perennial grass Paspalum dilatatum. Results. The dominant native grass Austrodanthonia caespitosa and native forbs were resilient to repeated fires, and target exotic annuals and perennials were suppressed differentially by autumn and spring fires. Exotic annuals were also suppressed by drought, reducing the overall treatment effects but indicating important opportunities for restoration. The initially sparse exotic geophyte Romulea rosea increased in cover with fire and the impact of this species on native forbs requires further investigation. There was minimal increase in diversity of subsidiary natives with fire, probably owing to lack of propagules. Conclusions. While fire is often considered to increase ecosystem invasibility, our study showed that strategic use of fire, informed by the relative responses of available native and exotic taxa, is potentially an effective step towards restoration of weed‐invaded temperate eucalypt woodlands.  相似文献

Biological activity assays with RH 5849 and RH 5992 indicated that both compounds affected growth and development of last-instar larvae ofSpodoptera exigua (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in a dose-dependent manner. Within the first 24 h after treatment by continuously offering leaves dipped in a water solution of ≥50 mg/l RH 5849 and ≥0.5 mg/l RH 5992, symptoms of a prematurely induced larval moult and head capsule apolysis were visible. Intoxicated larvae died shortly afterwards, showing signs of unsuccessful ecdysis. LC50-values of RH 5849 and RH 5992 for fifth-instarS. exigua larvae were 110 and 2.5 mg/l, respectively. Pyriproxyfen alone affected the larval stage and disturbed normal metamorphosis. One supernumerary larval instar occurred occasionally. LC50-value for pyriproxyfen was 1.7 mg/l. Larvae simultaneously treated with RH 5849 or RH 5992 and pyriproxyfen, continued to grow until they attained a size and weight about 2–3 times that of the controls. This growth was accompanied by at least one and sometimes two supernumerary moults. Concerning thein vivo imaginal wing disc growth and development, only in larvae treated with 10 and 50 mg/l RH 5849 or 0.5 mg/l RH 5992, tracheole migration was observed earlier than in the controls. When applying 300 mg/l RH 5849 or 3–7 mg/l RH 5992, the discs remained small and no signs of tracheole migration were observed. In larvae simultaneously treated with RH 5849 or RH 5992 and pyriproxyfen, tracheole migration was not prematurely induced and a pupal cuticle was produced in the discs of larvae, undergoing a supernumerary moult. No clear signs of evagination were observed.  相似文献

Neem,Azadirachta indica (A. Juss.), seed oil (NSO) applied to leaf discs at a concentration of 1.0% resulted in 94% to 100% mortality of second instar nymphs of currant-lettuce aphid,Nasonovia ribis-nigri (Mosley), and green peach aphid,Myzus persicae (Sulzer), after nine days. The equivalent amount of pure azadirachtin (AZA) (≈40 ppm), the principle active ingredient of neem, was as effective as NSO. The survival of adult aphids was unaffected by NSO or AZA, but the survival of offspring from treated adultM. persicae andN. ribis-nigri was reduced significantly. The lethal concentration of AZA resulting in 50% mortality of second instar nymphs of nine species of aphids ranged from 2.4 ppm forM. persicae on pepper to 635.0 ppm for the strawberry aphid,Chaetosiphon fragaefolii (Cockerell), on strawberry. ForM. persicae, the growth regulating effect of AZA was influenced by the host plant and the nymphal instar treated.  相似文献

Oxidation of ecdysone and ecdysterone with platinum as catalyst gives rise to several polar and 4–5 apolar substances, among them 3-dehydroecdysone and 3-dehydroecdysterone. Highest yields in the 3-dehydro products were reached after 4 to 8 hr of oxidation. 3-dehydroecdysone and 3-dehydroecdysterone are less active in inducing ecdysone specific puffs in Drosophila hydei salivary gland giant chromosomes but still contain a remarkable biological activity when compared with the original ecdysteroids. The activity of these two compounds is about one tenth that of ecdysone in the Calliphora assay.  相似文献
